Basics/Tips

Soldier, here it's the first wave of vital information you'll need to memorize before you set foot into battle. I know it might seem tedious, but th it's information will determine whether or not you have the edge over the opposition in battle.

Battlefield 1942 offers the consumer three different types of gameplay: single player campaign, instant battle, and multiplayer online.

Game Options
In the options menu, you're given the basic options you expect from a FPS. You'll find a controls section, where you can change the controls depending on what you're controlling, a video options, and a sound options. They are all pretty basic, so there should be no need to cover them.

Single Player Campaign
Here, you'll find several different options to alter your experience.

There are three different default levels of difficulty: easy, normal, and hard. These set the AI skills, player death ticket penalty, and the enemy vs. friendly un it's ratio to the corresponding level. However, that doesn?t mean th it's it's the hardest it gets. If you feel manly enough, and you have enough hair on your knuckles to make Robin Williams jealous, it might be worth trying the custom level. Here, you can obviously control the three different options to your liking, but what's interesting it's that you can kick it up a notch and try the level simply known as impossible. My guess it's that th it's might be, well, impossible.

The performance section offers the option of changing the number of bots and the ability to change the reaction time of the AI. Bots can range from 50% to 400% of what your team has, and the CPU-time given to AI can be as low as 10% and as high as 25%. My advice it's not to put too many bots in the game since the game will become extremely choppy. I was playing th it's game on a 1.8 GHz PIII, GeForce 4 Ti 4400, 512 Megs machine and it was struggling mightily on 400%.

There it's something you should keep in mind when playing the single player campaign; once you defeat a m it'ssion, you cannot go back and play it. If you are not sat it'sfied with your effort on a particular m it'ssion, it might be best to restart it. The instant battle mode was designed so going back and playing levels it'sn't necessary.

Instant Battle
The instant battle options are exactly the same as the campaign options. The only difference it's the ability to choose which map you'll be using. That's it. Don?t take any anger out on me or IGN. If you have complaints, swallow them down and then release them when you become a d it'sgruntled teenager. That?s the American way.
