README: GTR 2 Introducing GTR 2 ================= Extending the ground-breaking physics engine found in GTR, GTR 2 takes the thrill of driving to new heights. GTR 2, which is the official simulation of the FIA GT championship, features more than 140 high detailed cars and 34 different track-layouts in a hyper realistic racing world with breathtaking real-world-like effects. With a revolutionary Driving School Mode, GTR 2 will teach everybody how to become a real race driver. System Requirements =================== Minimum Specifications ---------------------- Operating Systems Microsoft Windows 2000, XP Home/Pro, x64 Processor 1.3 GHz Intel Pentium III or 100% compatible Memory 512 MB RAM Hard Drive 2.5 GB free space 3D Accelerator DirectX 8.1 compatible graphics card with 64 MB memory Sound Card DirectX 8.1 compatible Input Keyboard and Mouse DirectX Version 9.0c Recommended Specifications -------------------------- Operating Systems Microsoft Windows XP Home/Pro, x64 Processor 2 GHz Intel Pentium IV or 100% compatible Memory 1 GB RAM Hard Drive 2.5 GB free space 3D Accelerator DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with 256 MB memory Sound Card DirectX 9.0c compatible Input DirectX 9.0c compatible force feedback steering wheel DirectX Version 9.0c Installing GTR 2 ================ If Autorun is enabled on your system you will be presented with a language selection screen. Choose a language and choose "Install" in the next window. Alternatively, run SETUP.EXE on DVD/CD 1 to install the game directly. You need to have administrator rights to install GTR 2 on Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Professional/XP Home Edition. You need to login using an administrator account for the installation. Quick Start Guide ================= After installing the game, you will be prompted to set up basic graphic options using the GTR2Config program. The game can then be launched and your player profile can be created. Enter your name and configure your game controller and other game play options. Pay special attention to the settings which affect performance - see the "Maximizing Game Performance" section below. From there you can select the Race Weekend option, pick your car, track and number of opponents, and start racing! MoTeC i2 INTERPRETER ==================== This interpreter is the professional data analysis software made by MoTeC and used by real FIA GT racing teams. GTR 2 outputs data in the same way as the real cars do. To enable data analysis functionality in GTR 2 you must first install the i2 interpreter, the latest version of which is always available from: http://software.motec.com.au/release/ The MoTeC i2 Interpreter software is developed by MoTeC and its usage in GTR 2 is not supported by MoTeC. Refer to community websites for comprehensive advice and guidance on its usage. Troubleshooting =============== If GTR 2 fails to start, try changing the "Shader Level" setting in GTR2Config. Some graphics cards report incorrect information for the level they can support, and so the default "Auto" option can cause problems; this is especially common in integrated graphics chipsets such as those found in notebooks. If you experience very bad performance on the lowest settings, try setting the Shader Level on DirectX 8 or lower. Some older DirectX9 cards do not fully support GTR 2's advanced shaders. If you are still having problems, try updating your graphics card, sound card and motherboard drivers from the relevant web sites, for example: ATI Technologies http://www.ati.com/ Creative Labs http://www.creative.com/ Matrox http://www.matrox.com/ NVIDIA http://www.nvidia.com/ VIA http://www.viaarena.com/ After changing/updating your video card drivers, or changing your monitor, you must run GTR2Config again. Please also note that alt-tab operation in full screen mode can be unreliable using certain graphics card and/or driver combinations. Maximizing Game Performance =========================== Here are some suggestions to maximize your racing experience with the computer you are using: Adjust in-game settings. 01. Reduce the number of AI opponents. 02. Lower the "opponent detail" setting on the graphics menu. 03. Turn off "High Detail Wheels" on the advanced menu. 04. Turn off "High Res Car Livery" on the advanced menu. 05. Set "Shadow Quality" to medium on the graphics menu. 06. Turn off the "trackside characters" option on the graphics menu. 07. Beware using 60X daylight acceleration with large grids of cars. Night racing is very machine intensive. 08. Turn down the "Shadows" option on the graphics menu. 09. To improve night racing performance, turn down the "Headlight Detail" option on the graphics menu. Adjust settings on your PC. 01. Turn off anisotropic filtering and/or full screen anti-aliasing in your Windows Graphics control panel. 02. Turn off full screen anti-aliasing in GTR2Config. 03. Lower the resolution set in GTR2Config. 04. Lower the shader level set in GTR2Config. ADVICE ====== Tire Warming ------------ When playing in Semi-Pro or Simulation mode, your tires will have to warm up to optimum racing temperatures before you get the best grip out of them. Please note that the tires can take one or two full laps to get up to their operating temperature. The car will have much less grip until the tires are warmed up and much less braking power until the brakes are warmed up. Live temperatures for tires and brakes are provided in the Cockpit MoTeC display (car dependent) - press the LCD Mode key to cycle through these settings. Don't make any setup changes until you've done at least 3 or 4 laps. Reset Car Assist (default E) ---------------------------- Sometimes you will find yourself off track with no quick way to get back on it again. Perhaps you're stuck in a gravel trap, slipping around on wet grass, or stuck in a ditch. The Reset Car assist works like a virtual trackside marshal crew (only faster), and will place you back at the trackside from where you can then drive back onto the track as soon as it's safe to do so. Note that you have to be completely stationary before using the Reset Car assist. You can reassign the Reset Car function to any controller or keyboard button. To reassign it, navigate to Controls>Buttons>Game, click on the Reset Car entry, and select a button to assign it to. Other Assists (F1 - F9) ----------------------- If you have problems controlling the car or are not using a steering wheel, use keys F1 - F9 to turn on driving assists. These are displayed by a red light in the heads-up display - Key Number '2'.
