Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6

As is usually the case in my guides, I am putting the basic information as to the format of the guide here. I will not be listing individual treasures and such (too much to list, and random), where it all is (too much too list ¿ again) and the location of every single enemy and trap (for the third time, it would take too long to write up). What will be included is the location of all quest items, boss battles, general battle strategies for each area and puzzle solutions.

I will also include a large array of maps for the more complex dungeons and towns. Don¿t fret, if I don't include one for the current area ¿ it just means that I didn¿t see the need for including one. I will try to generalize the guide away from my characters, but that is often very hard to do. Small side quests will be incorporated right into the main walkthrough. The main walkthrough will be broken apart into chapters and then the individual areas inside the chapter. I will usually follow the path of the ¿good¿ heroes. If I find an evil route around something, I will be sure to place a note about it as I go.

Start the game off by building a balanced party (per the advise I gave earlier). Get used to the interface, take a look at where everything is, and off you go! Use the ALT key to highlight all objects that you can use that are on the screen.

Prologue

The Docks
Once the game starts, talk to the ship¿s captain to get some background information on what is happening. Targos is under attack by a horde of goblins and worse. It seems that a bunch of goblins got around the walls and are now attacking the citizens. Talk to Reig at the end of the docks to find out a little more on the situation.

Reig asks you to get him a potion of healing from Magder. Open the door (bash it or pick the lock) to the large northern building and talk to Magder. He will let you smash everything, so get to it. The potion is in a locked chest in the top right corner of the place. Go just to the east to find Brogen. He tells you of the problems in the warehouse and asks you to fetch some adventurers. Head to the tavern (it is in the center of the area) and talk to the adventurers there. They tell you of two other members of their group, but don't come with you when pressed. There is a man in the tavern that will sell you weapons and armour, if you have need of it. He mainly sells the same stuff that the goblins drop, but with a slightly better inventory. Give the potion to Reig and return to Brogen. Regardless of what he says, enter the warehouse and kill the goblins inside. They are so easy to kill that an unarmoured caster can tank one. Search the place to find a dead cat and then enter the trapdoor.

The caves are crawling with goblins. Kill their leader to get a used spell scroll. Clear the caves and return to town. Talk to Brogen for a small reward and then make sure that you clear out all the buildings of goblins, if you have not already done so. Killing all the goblins in the docks area will get you some nice experience, and will pave the way for some future quests. Go to the south and enter the small house to find an old woman beset upon by goblins. Kill them all and talk to the ungrateful lady. She is the captain¿s mother and will open up to you only after you show her the cat. Keep the cat for later use (I know ¿ ewwwwwww) and proceed to badger her for information. Talk to her son and then head to the northwestern corner of the area. Climb up the stairs to enter the city itself, once you have finished your started quests.

The City of Targos
Things get a little more interesting when you enter the second large area of town. This is the town proper. There are many more things that have to be done here. To start off enter the southeasternmost building. It is the Weeping Widow Inn. Talk to the innkeeper to discover the problem that he is having. Talk to him about the spirit and he will give you a key to an upstairs room. Rest until nightfall and then talk to the ghost. She will tell you about her husband. Leave her and ask the innkeeper about her husband. He will point you towards the barkeep in the tavern. Head to the docks and talk to the guy. He will give you a piece of a ship. Take it back to the spirit for a small reward.

Talk to the innkeeper again and press him about the bottle that Koluhm gave him. Tell him that you will identify it. If you can identify it yourself, do it. It will save you some time. Otherwise you will have to show it to Elythara. Show it to him once it is identified and he will let you keep it. Take it to the spirit and she will shed a tear into it, if you ask her to. She will then depart. You can sell the bottle to Elythara for 500 gold, or for an enchanted dagger.

To find Elythara you will have to visit her in the eastern city hall. She is there with her husband. She will identify the scroll that you found earlier, if you show it to her. She will ask you to help her friend Varin, if you ask about the war efforts. Remember to come back to her whenever you need magical supplies or help. Talk to her husband Ulbrec to get access to the Palisades area. If you feel lucky, pick his pockets for a Ring of Protection +1. Head outside and to the tracks just outside the Weeping Widow Inn. Talk to Lumbar about his problem, and you will save a trip later. Return to the docks and go to the tavern. Talk to Guthewulf and play his game (16 Constitution or higher to win) to win his charm. Then buy (or steal) a flask of braehg from him. Stealing it will save you 222 gold pieces.

Go to the pavilion tent in the upper left corner of the city itself and talk to Varin. He is lying in a comatose state. Steal his notes to have a good laugh, or just simply give him the braehg to wake him up. He reveals a few details of your future and tells you to talk to Elythara for a reward. Do so, and go to the inn and take a rest. Return to the pavilion tent and talk to the guy lying on the cot - the Tanner guy. He asks you to deliver some letters for him. They are in fact coded messages. Show them to Denham (the priest of the Red Knight) to have them exchanged for fake documents. Tell Tanner that his ruse his up and he will reveal himself as a Doppelganger to you. Kill him and enjoy the nice experience rewards!

Heal again, if you have to and then head to Phaen's house. Phaen lives just to the north of the city hall. Save your game before you enter and show him the scroll. He will turn on you - this battle is not easy! Position your fighters in the front and be prepared for the goblins that he summons to his side. Put them to sleep, if you can, pr simply whack Phaen and deal with the goblins later. Phaen, as a mage, has the ability to knock your party down real fast, if left unattended. After the battle tell Elythara of what happened. Now go through the northern gates to continue on with your mission from Lord Ulbrec.

The Palisades
A war is brewing and the Palisades are proof to that. There are a few people to talk to here. Swift Thomas will take you to places in town, Niles is looking for booze and will pay you for it (or tell him that he needs to be sober to get some experience), Tabard will let you get at a shield if you convince him that a captain was looking for him, and Gable and Kadence (you can win a bow or gold off of them, if you agree to play their game). Talk to these people and then head into the bunkhouse to find Shawford, your new employer. Get ready for a lot of errand quests!

The first errand is to fix the crane. Go to the northern end of the Palisades and talk to Olap. He tells you of his need for lumber. If you have already spoken with Lumbar, you can proceed to find the solution to the problem. If not, go talk to him - he is just east of the Weeping Widow Inn. Once Olap tells you of his father, you should search him out. Talk to Swift Thomas to get around town quickly. Jorun can be found near the beached ship in the docks area. Talk to him to get the gear necessary to fix the crane. Return to Lumbar and place the gear into the gear box. Return to Olap and then Shawford for your rewards.

Your second task is even easier. Shawford points you towards Isherwood, an archer in the western part of the Palisades. He needs your help getting a shipment of arrows. Talk to the nearby catapult repairman, Caulder, and convince him that you can help him fix the catapult. Head to town and go into Gallaway's Trade House. It is in the southern section of town. Talk to Deidre and you'll be able to convince her that you need her help. If all else fails, tell her that the town will pay her. Buy a hammer for Caulder while you are there. Once you have the good news that she'll help the town out, head back to Isherwood to get your reward. Report your success to Shawford.

Your next task is to talk to Koluhm. Koluhm lives just to the north of the Weeping Widow Inn. Approach him with a dwarf, elf, or halfling character, or someone with a high Intelligence. He will converse with the dead goblin and will give you a transcript for Shawford. Give it to him and get your last errand. Oh - make sure that Caulder gets his hammer!

Your last task is to find the Iron Collar Mercenary Band and convince them to come and help the town guard. If they don't come, you are told to make an example of them. Both ways result in the same experience, but convincing them has the greater benefit. They are in the tavern in the docks area. To convince them, tell Gregory that you are going to expose them of treachery - for being associated with Phaen. That gets him moving! Heal and prepare your spells before returning to Shawford. Once you tell him about the Iron Collar guys, the final battle of this portion of the game will begin!

As soon as you tell Shawford of your success, the goblin horde attacks! He rushes out to do battle with them. Follow him out and be prepared to fight three large groups of goblins. Use Sleep spells, if you have them to put a lot of goblins to sleep. Otherwise take them down one at a time. Each group is led by a powerful goblin leader. The first is a worg rider, the second is a fighter and the third is a sorcerer. Just try to keep your health high and you should have no problems here. If you really need some healing, just head to Shawford's house and talk to the healer there to get fixed up. After the battles, loot everything and proceed to both Ulbrec and Shawford for your rewards. Ulbrec will give you a further mission to accomplish, but this will be covered in the first chapter.

Clean your inventory, buy some equipment, prepare spells and rest before heading out of the Palisade gates and into the wild frontier!
