Map List Editor - Map Name Formatter

The Map Name Formatting function applies to the Available Maps List (ie right list) in the Map Mixer Map List Editor.

Background

It seems to be quite popular these days for map authors to prefix a map name with some sort of code or abbreviation. Some obvious examples are:

Now this is all good in theory as it keeps the author's maps all grouped together in the map list when it is alphabetically sorted via the map name. However, sometimes you want to find a map by name and you won't be able to do this too easily if the map you are looking for is prefixed with, for example, one of the above abbreviations.

MapMixer refers to these abbreviations as "Group Names".

Using the Map Name Formatting function you can have MapMixer alter the way maps are displayed in the Available Maps List (right) in the Map List Editor, in the following ways:

Remove Map Prefixes
This option removes the standard map classification prefix from the map (eg "DM", "CTF", ONS" etc). This can improve readability if you are viewing a list that contains all of the same map prefixes. However, it could prove confusing if, in the rare case, you were viewing a game type that had numerous map prefixes included in it (such as a Custom Game Type). For example: imagine you were looking at both CTF and BR maps in the same list. In this case you would see both "BR-TwinTombs" and "CTF-TwinTombs" appear as "TwinTombs". (Although, importantly, MapMixer still knows which one is which!) So just keep that in mind.

Remove Group Names and Postfix Group Names
MapMixer can remove Group Names from the displayed map name or simply show them tacked on the end.
For example:

Remove
"BR-DE-ElecFields" becomes "BR-ElecFields"

Postfix
"BR-DE-ElecFields" becomes "BR-ElecFields-DE"

This has the effect of allowing the maps to be listed alphabetically.

For the sake of useability, makes NO assumptions about Group Names, and does not try to guess what they are. You must enter your Group Names manually in the Map Name Formatter Menu for MapMixer to recognise them in map names.

Notes

The actual map names are not changed - only what is displayed. So don't get worried, MapMixer won't (and more importantly, can't) change your actual map names.

When you add a map to your custom map list, it appears with its full original name.
