Mission Two
Mission Objective: A Smoke Jaguar base lies to the east of your path through this area. To avoid being flanked, take control of the base and destroy all Smoke Jaguar Forces patrolling the area.
Primary Objectives: Take control of fortress at Op. Able. Protect fortress core at Op. Able.
Secondary Objective: None
Difficulty: Medium
Mech Recommendation: Heavy Mech with ample close-range weaponry, specifically an autocannon with ample ammunition.
Approach Op. Able slowly and three Mechs soon power up, a Madcat, a tough Annihilator and a Shadowcat. Order your lancemates to deal with the Madcat and the Shadowcat. Meanwhile, keep your distance against the Annihilator, which once again boasts four autocannons. You don't want to mess with this beast at close range. Keep your distance and rip into its legs or torso with your long-range lasers or autocannons. After the Annihilator is downed, the other two Mechs aren't nearly as difficult.
Keep your distance against the Mechs surrounding the base. |
The tricky part to this mission, though, is that when all three of these Mechs are defeated, the mission objective changes. You've successfully captured the base, but now you must defend it against four heavily armed Mechs. After the base defenders are downed, you don't have much time to repair and refit before you must do battle against four new Mechs. If you can, try and repair in the MFB while your lancemates are taking out the last remaining Mech, the Shadowcat or the Madcat. If you don't, you might have time before the enemy forces enter the area, but be prepared to work quickly.
Once the base is captured, four Mechs - a Madcat, a Thor, a Shadowcat and a Vulture - enter the area to destroy what you've just gained. Fortunately, a new lancemate also enters the area to assist your team. This part of the mission is quite chaotic. Keep an eye on your damage meters and fire at any enemy Mech in view. If you see any enemy Mechs approaching the base, take some shots at the legs or torso to slow them down and force them to turn their sight on you.
Order your lancemates to occupy a single Mech apiece and use your autocannon to rip through enemy armor at close-range. Though this segment of the mission is quite chaotic, it isn't that difficult. The main thing to remember is to not have each enemy Mech firing on you - or worse, the base. After all four enemy Mechs are destroyed, the mission ends.
