Operation Two
Though still only four missions, Operation Two should prove a far more difficult task than the first set of missions. Not only will you face off against deadlier foes (including a battle with an Annihilator!), but the quantity of enemies increases dramatically. During Operation Two, if you haven't done so already, you must move out of your default Mech and begin tinkering with the larger machines. Both the Orion and Thor are salvageable during Operation Two; make an effort to secure these powerful Mechs for your own use.
Mission One
Mission Objective: Friendly units have destroyed the dam in this area, draining the lake nearby and revealing the entrance to an underground installation. Get to the main elevator, taking out emplacement defenses along the way.
Primary Objectives: Destroy fixed emplacements at Op. Able. Escort Mobile Field Base to Op. Baker. Kill local commander inside the Thor Mech.
Secondary Objective: Destroy Smoke Jaguar Forces.
Difficulty: Medium
Mech Recommendation: Standard or Orion, if salvaged.
This second operation begins just outside a drained lakebed and an entrance into the underground base. As the mission begins, two harassers and four bulldogs approach from one side. Head into this area and take them out before proceeding on. Once almost all the vehicles are destroyed, a simple Strider Mech joins the fight. If you've survived to this point, the Strider shouldn't be much trouble.
Get Op. Able on the map and proceed. There should be a large mountain on your left that's blocking your view of the fixed emplacements inside. As you continue your approach, an Owens Mech comes into the area and engages from the opposite side. Don't head into Op. Able; instead, hang back and get rid of the Owens. If you need to rearm or repair, head back to the start point and the Mobile Field Bases.
Don't hesitate to use your lancemate. Order him to take on the Mechs while you engage the ground forces. |
Once the Owens is destroyed, proceed slowly toward Op. Able and the emplacements. Use long-range weaponry and your zoom scope to eliminate them. As you approach, three Elemental Mechs emerge in the distance and head your way. Again, don't head into the lake bed and take on more than you need to. Hang outside the valley and let the Elementals come to you. Take each out and head back to the entrance to this valley.
The lakebed lies just ahead. You'll need to escort the Mobile Field Bases into this area shortly, so scan the lake bed very carefully - you'll spot some odd objects. Some of these are in the direct path that your MFB will take later in the mission. Destroy these mines with your laser weaponry, especially those near Op. Baker. A Firefly should emerge from the base beyond. Retreat into the valley if you need to and eliminate the Firefly there.
Enter the valley again and destroy the two laser platforms on your right. You'll be pretty close to them but you should be able to take them out before they get off any significant shots. Again, clear the lakebed of any mines and proceed to Op. Baker. Do not call for the Mobile Field Bases until you've heard that the secondary objective ("Destroy Smoke Jaguar Forces") is complete.
A Shadowcat now makes its presence known from the far side beyond Op. Baker. He'll hang far back so you'll need to continue to approach. About this time a ship launches from the underground base releasing a mighty Thor Mech containing the local commander. Be very careful against this Thor; it packs quite a punch a close range. As it gets off of the structure, try and charge it and go for the legs. Sometimes it'll get hung up on the ramp and make for an easy target. Go for leg shots, because the Thor is a powerful Mech to salvage and one that'll come in handy for the next difficult mission.
Once the Thor is downed, take out the Shadowcat (unless you have already done so) and do another check of the path leading to Op. Baker - you don't want any mines ruining a successful mission! Call for the Mobile Field Base and have them rendezvous at Op. Baker. Once they arrive, the mission ends successfully.
