Dooking Glass Studios' Thief: The Dark Project emphasizes stealth, thinking, trickery, and cunning. Following something of a tradition at Looking Glass, Thief is one of the most interesting, intriguing, immersive, and generally fascinating games to play, but at the same time, it's no piece of cake to finish. Once you do, however, you'll wish you hadn't, as you'll only want more.

Don't be surprised if there are places where you get stuck. This guide is your key to getting yourself - that is, the thief Garrett - out of whatever sticky situation you've gotten yourself into, and it provides tips on how to be a successful and efficient thief.

    This guide contains:

  • Information on being a thief and staying alive - all at the same time
  • A level-by-level account of how to beat the twelve missions in Thief and the best ways to do it, from Lord Bafford's Manor to the Maw of Chaos

Note that we're going to assume a few things before we jump right in. Many of the game's items and weapons are explained clearly in the manual, so we'll go on the assumption that you already know about them. We'll also assume that you have passed the training area and experienced at least that much of the game. We also assume you are playing on the normal difficulty level. The expert level adds more stringent objectives, which thorough thieves would accomplish anyway. Although it's worth noting, for everyone's sake, that attacks, especially on civilians, should be kept to a bare minimum (if at all).
