Command Map

Venice is a fairly large and complex map: The Allies must escort a tank out of the range of an AT gun and into position near the Axis spawn to destroy an outpost to cross the river. Then they must escort the tank into a position where it can blow a hole in the library where the objective is stored. Then they must cross the river, get into the library, get the objective and deliver it to a boat. THEN they must escort the boat down the river to an awaiting truck!

The map is spread out and is built as one great big battleground: this map has places for snipers, mgs, great airstrike locations and plenty of things for engineers to build and destroy. This means that you will need all classes to win this map for either side. Of course, a one-on-one would probably have to be two engineers, at least at the beginning.

Spawn Locations:

Axis Spawn 1: Between the AT gun and the Outpost

Allied Spawn 1: At the far South of the map with the tank.

Axis Spawn 2: After the Allies get past the Outpost the Axis spawn moves to near the library.

Allied Spawn 2: Initial Axis spawn near outpost.

Constructibles

Allied Constructibles:

  1. Tank

  2. Command Post

  3. Footbridge
  4. Boat

Axis Constructibles:

  1. AT Gun

  2. Boat Barriers
  3. Command Post

  4. Tank Barrier

Axis Mines

There are not many places on this map where mines can be planted. The two possibly successful places are:

  • The church yard next to the footbridge is a common place where you might be able to get some enemies seeking sanctuary behind the wall
  • Tank Barrier Location
    • The Tank Barrier must be built prior to planting any mines (the dirt does not appear until the barrier is constructed)
    • Mines can be planted with or without the barrier in place

Allied Mines

There are even fewer opportunities for Allied mines. You can try the same two spots mentioned above, but you may be inviting some team kills unless the axis are pushing you back.

Vehicles

Tank

The Allies start with a Churchill Tank in their spawn and must perform a 4-part task:

  • Escort the tank past the AT gun
  • Get the tank to the Outpost to destroy it
  • Get tank over bridge and past tank barrier
  • Get tank into position to destroy the Library entrance

Escape Boat

The Allies also have an escape boat awaiting the relic

  • Get the relic to the boat
  • Escort the boat past the two boar barriers and to the waiting truck (just past Allied spawn b)

Travel Routes

Since the Allies are on the offensive in this map, I've included the main travel routes for the Allies.

The two sets of routes are:

From Spawn A (in Yellow)

The 4 main routes for the Allies are drawn in yellow above.

  1. Across open area through ammo/health supply and then through Axis spawn. This one is obviously risky, but you could turn right at the AT gun instead.
  2. Through the open area is also dangerous, but it is the most direct path.
  3. Using the alley, the Allies can bypass much of that open space and either get to the outpost through the last part of the open area or by going around to the right.
  4. By going through the alley and then past the command post, this route is probably the safest, but the Axis know that too!

From Spawn B (in Red and Purple)

After reaching the second spawn point the Allies have 5 main ways to get to enemy territory.

  1. The purple line is only possible if the footbridge has been constructed, but this route only gets into Axis areas at the end and makes it to the boat and the side entrance of the library.
  2. Using the side exit from the spawn and crossing the river, the Allies can reach the Axis by going past the church (where the footbridge is constructed). This ends up by the final destination of the tank.
  3. Allies can also get across the river by a shorter route that passes the construction materials for boat barrier 2.
  4. The fourth route goes through a door to the outpost and then crosses the bridge that the tank uses. This leads to the tank barrier before reaching the Axis.
  5. The last route is also through the outpost, but instead takes the river around to where boat barrier 1 is located.

Strategies

Allies: Protect the Tank

The Allies must get the tank through the outpost, past the tank barrier, and into position to open the library, or they cannot win. Engineers will be needed to repair the tank and the rest of the crew will have to stop those pesky panzers and airstrikes from taking out the tank.

Don't waste time destroying the boat barriers, repairing the boat, or even destroying the tank barrier if you're not moving the tank. It won't matter and you will lose.

Don't forget that the tank has a pretty good weapon on top of it too.

Allies: Exiting the Library

When you get into the library and steal the relic, remember that there are two exits; enter through one, exit the other, or just watch both of them before you leave. The trip to the boat is very short and all you have to do is get to it to load the objective. A covert that enters the library and drops a satchel by the side entrance (without firing it) can give himself some extra firepower if the Axis try to jump in when they hear that the relic has been stolen.

Allies: Keep the Boat Moving

When the relic is in the boat, the boat won't move unless it has an escort. The escort does not have to sit in the boat, swimming along side or underneath works as well. Keeping engineers in the water with the boat will help keep the boat going. This makes for more effective airstrikes for your enemy, so don't stay TOO close.

Axis: Stop the Tank

Take out the tank and you win! Keep your airpower on the tank and stop the engineers from repairing it.

There are many places where the tank can be stopped for a long time. With a combination of airstrikes, snipers, and well-placed grenades, even a smaller force can stop that thing. Be careful if you commit too many soldiers to the tank because you might let the Allies sneak around you.

Both Sides: Various Tips

Learn to fight in water. A river runs through this map and the escape boat runs almost the entire length.

  • Shooting a gun does not work until the tip of the gun is out of the water.
  • Grenades travel differently and swimmers are moving slower.
  • Knifing is difficult because the water is moving too.
  • The river provides good cover in many places.
  • Don't forget that on a Shrub server, you can revive and plant dynamite under water too.

Artillery/Airstrikes will make a big difference in this map. Most of the gameplay is outdoors, so watch the skies!

Mortars can also be very useful on this map if you have a lot of players. Both sides can find points where they can do a lot of damage. Remember to ask your coverts to keep using their binocs to show the enemy on your map.

Use the boxes laying about for cover.

Panzers make a great "opening door" moment for your opponent. This is a common strategy when the boat is moving past the two Axis doors to the river.

Use smoke for cover. This seems to be a neglected skill. It will help engineers get the tank moving and build contructibles, it will provide great cover for taking the relic to the boat, etc.

Sniper locations are all over this map. Take advantage of them, but don't stand still for too long or you will get caught in someone else's sights.
