With few exceptions (which are duly noted in the mission guides), events in I76 are triggered when you hit markers. This means that simply getting from Point A to Point B is more important than getting from Point A to Point B at 120-plus mph. Keep this in mind - driving at a controllable speed is extremely important. Sure, you want to take advantage of that new blower you just salvaged and see just what your Piranha can do, but you’ll be sorry if you get halfway through a mission only to lose control on a hairpin turn and find yourself engine-up in a deep ravine.

While it may seem like obvious advice, you should always have your front mounted weapons linked. You’ll be doing twice the damage with every hit.

Like you, the enemy takes damage in specific areas. If a creeper’s damage meter is in the red, that simply means that one area of his car is severely damaged. Try to target your enemy on one side - hit ‘em hard and hit ‘em fast, but hit ‘em consistently.

The rear is a good bet, as staying behind a car is simpler than consistently getting a clean shot at the side. Another useful tactic - and this is where a healthy amount of front armor becomes helpful - is to throw your car in reverse and take any opponents out as they follow you. If you’re going backwards, nine times out of ten they’ll single-mindedly chase you, regardless of the damage you’re doing to their front end.

On the other hand, you should be very wary of your weak points. Practice keeping your "good side" toward your opponent, so their shots are hitting your strongest areas.

Finally, learn to react quickly to the sound of incoming missiles. If you don’t have a radar jammer, shut off your engine when you hear a heat seeker approaching - unless it was a direct shot, the missile will sail on by without even scratching your paint.
