Mission Two
Mission Objective: Friendly forces need to get north of your current position, but the area is protected by a heavy missile platform. Capture the barracks at Op. Able for additional supplies and attempt to gain access to a plateau that is within the heavy missile platform's blind spot. Destroy the platform so friendly forces can advance.
Primary Objectives: Capture enemy barracks at Op. Able. Destroy missile platforms at Op. Baker.
Secondary Objective: Destroy Smoke Jaguar Forces.
Difficulty: Easy
Mech Recommendation: Standard
As soon as the mission begins, two APCs appear on the radar to the west and an Owens to the east. Take your time and concentrate on the Owens first. While the APCs will certainly be annoying, they can't match the firepower of the Owens, which is therefore more dangerous. Once all are destroyed, head to Op. Able and the enemy barracks.
Believe it or not, the heavy missile platform to the northeast can easily target you when you are near the barracks. There's a hill between your current position and the enemy barracks. Use this hill, which will protect you against the heavy missile platform's long range missiles, as you investigate what lies ahead. As you approach Op. Able, four more APCs and an enemy Mech, a Strider, approach. Again, use this hill for cover against the heavy missile platform as you take out the APCs.
The Strider presents a formidable challenge, especially as it will attempt to bait you out from around that hill. Taking on the Strider while getting pounded by the missile platform is tough; make every attempt to duck behind that hill and get off shots at the Strider's weak legs. If not, you still should be able to kill the Strider out in the open while taking hits from the missile platform. As soon as the Strider is destroyed, retreat behind the hill and look over your damage.
If you need repair at this time (you likely will), don't hesitate to return to your Mobile Field Base. Should you need to call for the MFB, make sure to keep it at a distance. Don't call it to you; instead, you return to it. You don't want the MFB taking fire from that heavy missile platform. After repair, head back to the barracks (use that hill again for cover) and just charge into the barracks to capture complete the first mission objective.
Simply walk into the barracks at Op. Able to capture and obtain its valuable supplies. |
Several bulldog tanks should appear on the radar about this time. Run straight at them. Eventually about four will emerge. If you advance to their position, you'll realize you just made it to that blind spot discussed in the mission briefing (look around and you should see the missile platforms). Take out the bulldogs, then turn your sight on the heavy missile platforms.
Because you are in their blind spot, you can safely approach the enemy weaponry at close range (gaining access to the plateau in the process) and eliminate them from there. Either way, once the two missile platforms are destroyed, the mission ends successfully.
