These are the units you will know best, your constant companions through the 25 single-player missions. You will need to fully understand their strengths and weaknesses to preserve every ounce of life in your always-outnumbered army.

Berserks
Long hair, scraggly beards, painted bodies, huge freakin' swords; it's hard to miss a Berserk. These fearless warriors have blinding speed both on foot and with their two-handed swords, making them among your most valuable and powerful weapons.

character shot Berserks are excellent scouts: They not only cover ground quickly, but they can also retreat if spotted and can defend themselves if they encounter opposition. Use them in groups of two or three to wade through uncharted territory.

When a swarming attack is what you desire, Berserks are your men. Since they can get to a target so quickly, they are very effective in surrounding an opponent and attacking from all sides (especially useful against Trow and Mauls). Also, given their speed and quick attacks, Berserks are your best choice for attacking a slow retreating foe; the Berserk will get in several hits before a retreating Thrall can so much as turn around.

On the downside, Berserks are a bit fragile and can't take much punishment. Their fierce resistance to wearing any armor renders them easy targets in the rare moments when they are outmatched. Also, they are extremely eager to jump into any fray, so control them tightly and place them in guard mode whenever practicable.

Berserks are most effective against the equally speedy Ghôls, the fragile Soulless, and stray Black Archers. With skillful use, they can also be very powerful against Fetches, Trow and Myrkridia (if you can get the Berserks to spread out and attack from all sides at once; you'll lose a few, but you'll come out ahead).
