Briefing: You're going to have to sharpen up your card skills. After disgracing yourself in a late-night poker session, you've been detailed the task of guarding a military installation at the southernmost tip of Malden.

Objective: Ensure no harm comes to the installation (located at grid location Ai94), which forms a key part of the island's antiaircraft defenses.

A jeep arrives with the commander inside. He offers some words of encouragement and leaves you alone to guard the installation and camp. If you'd like to intercept the incoming Spetz Natz (attempting to blow apart the camp), simply proceed over the hill away from the camp. The lighthouse will be on your right as you move through the trees. Activate your night-vision goggles to spot the approaching Spetz Natz. Eliminate them; you may only need to eliminate one, because the other may retreat from the mission area.

Night-vision goggles illuminate the path during night missions.

You receive a transmission that there are additional enemies in the area. You may discover these in the form of a Hind patrolling overhead and several boats just offshore. You can scamper to the lighthouse and use the M2 gun emplacement there to blast the patrolling boats and Hind. Once the friendly Black Ops arrive to secure the military camp, the mission ends in success. The key to the mission is defending the camp from the Spetz Natz.

Hold Malden--Malden, Near the Port

Briefing: The Russians are attacking Malden. You must hold the port at all costs. Your squad is patrolling north of La Riviere (located at grid location Ci73).

Objectives: Go to the port (located at grid location Ci75) and engage the enemy. Fight off the invasion force.

Ignore the M2 machine gun emplacement ahead of your start position. You're instead ordered to the emplacement to the left of your start position. You can pick off some soldiers as you move to the left (just peer over the hill on the right).

Approach the M2 machine gun emplacement and utilize the weapon using the action menu. Switch to the gun view (hit the V key) and target the incoming Russian soldiers scattered around the small buildings ahead. Keep tabs on the radio transmissions. You soon discover that things aren't going well and the port has been surrounded--plus, armored units are on the way!

Mount the M2 machine gun and take aim at the approaching Russian soldiers.

Disengage from the machine gun emplacement immediately when ordered and start running toward Ci70. You are soon ordered to retreat to this point.

Objective: Retreat to the north!

Don't look back. Just scamper as quickly as possible to Ci70. Avoid the paratroopers dropping from the sky. The mission concludes once you reach the "retreat north" indicator on the map.

Defender--The Main Road to La Pessagna, Central Malden

Your first job is to place three mines along the road.

Briefing: A Russian tank column is advancing toward La Pessagna (located at grid location Cd50). NATO defenses in the town will be unable to withstand a substantial armored assault. You and Sergeant Fuller must try to intercept the incoming tanks, using mines and antitank missiles. You begin at 05:50 near the main road (located at grid location Ch61).

Objectives: Lay mines on the road, and neutralize any surviving tanks using the AT missiles stashed nearby. Rendezvous with the rest of the squad.

You possess three mines. Position them in the center of the road. Spread them out. Walk to the bend in the road (toward where the map indicates the tanks are arriving from) and place a mine. Retreat to the mission leader's position and approach the stack of ammo crates. Grab a LAW launcher.

Be ready with a LAW launcher in case the mines don't do the trick.

There are many ways to deal with the approaching tanks, and there are many possible outcomes to your minefield. You may eliminate all the tanks, or several tanks may remain intact. Here's one solution: After grabbing the LAW launcher, run up the road away from where the tanks arrive. Maneuver to the top of a hill and take cover behind trees and bushes. Arm the LAW launcher and wait for the tanks to arrive.

Hold fire until the tanks move through the minefield. You're told when to open fire. Blast the remaining tank or tanks with the LAW launcher (it may require several shots). A friendly M113 arrives to help mop up surviving Russian soldiers.
