Scouting--NATO Camp in Goisse

Briefing: Lieutenant Armstrong, we need to find the camp from which the Soviets launched their attack on Goisse. Your men's job is to pinpoint its exact location and report back. Do not engage the enemy--the attack will follow later. You'll begin the mission at NATO's base in Goisse (located at grid location Ci33).

Objectives: Follow the M113s, supporting their attack on the enemy position at Da30. Find out the exact position of the enemy encampment, which we know is somewhere in the valley (approximately grid location Dg26). Get back to Goisse in one piece.

The M113s set out along the road to tackle the enemy presence between you and the scout position. Locate the nearby jeep and assume the driver's position. Order your squad to climb into the jeep and get in any seat. Follow the M113s in the jeep (you'll be a bit behind). If you run across any Russian soldiers between your camp and the M113s' final position, exit the jeep and order your squad to attack the soldiers.

Follow close behind the M113s, which will take care of most of the Soviet soldier opposition.

The M113s will likely be able to handle most of the Russian soldiers. You're given word once the coast is clear. Assist the M113s or let them do most of the dirty work for you. Remain in the jeep and proceed toward the approximate location of the enemy base. Instead of random scouting, simply proceed along the road to grid reference De25. You automatically spot the enemy base far up ahead.

Immediately turn around and start back to your base camp. Don't crash the jeep into too many trees or you'll be forced to make the trek on foot. There may be Russian soldiers along the path back to your base camp, and it's much easier to speed by them in the jeep than to combat them. The mission ends in success if you scouted the enemy camp and returned to base.

Turning the Tide--In the Hills Near Goisse

Briefing: Your task is to neutralize the enemy encampment in the valley northwest of Goisse. Your squad will be dropped off at the head of the valley at Dh30.

Objectives: Proceed through the valley to the perimeter (located at grid location Df27) to the enemy camp. Send code Alpha (0-0-1) to Bravo Squad (located at grid location Db26). They will then attack from the south. Neutralize the enemy camp (located at grid location De25). Don't let anyone escape.

Consider the M21 sniper rifle for this mission.

Pay special attention to your equipment for this mission. You have the M21 sniper rifle available, and it proves invaluable in clearing the valley and assaulting the Soviet base from long range. You should also consider the LAW launcher to combat the two BMPs within the Soviet base. Order your soldiers to follow you toward the valley ahead. You're quite exposed to Russian troops in the valley; beware of Soviet forces on the hills to the left and within the trees ahead.

Move patiently through the valley's trees and allow the Soviet patrols to maneuver within view of your sniper rifle and within range of your fellow soldiers. Slowly make your way to the perimeter of the Soviet base. Issue the code Alpha (hit the 0-0-1 keys), and Bravo will begin its attack. Assault the BMPs with the LAW launcher or order your soldiers to conduct the attack. If you equipped the sniper rifle, clear out all Soviets patrolling the base within your scope.

There's ample cover inside the Soviet base. You can use the tents or the destroyed BMPs, or you can even move a Ural parked inside a makeshift garage and use the vehicle as cover against remaining troops. Clearing out the camp completes half of the task. After sending a transmission, you're ordered to make sure no Soviets escape the camp.

Use the Ural to make a quick search if you wish, though realize you can be shot out of the driver's seat. Scan the shoreline for any remaining Soviets, and order your soldiers to attack while you remain at long range with the sniper rifle. Secure the enemy base camp to complete the mission.
