Briefing: James, the situation is desperate. We need you to break into Guba's headquarters and get any information you can to help us find the SCUD. You will approach the heavily guarded target zone from the west (located at grid location Cc45).
Objectives: Get inside and steal the documents from the general's house (located at grid location Be42). Escape (located at grid location Cc46) from the area.
This is one of the toughest missions in the game, requiring both skill and a little bit of luck. You begin the mission just outside a Soviet checkpoint. An impassable fence protects the paths to the left and right of the checkpoint--it's time to sneak through! That's easier said than done. You may find more success, depending on your style of play, powering your way through the checkpoint.

Equip a sniper rifle and LAW launcher. Use the sniper rifle to clear the checkpoint of its Soviet guards. You'll find a few around the checkpoint itself--two in the forest to the right of the checkpoint and approximately three to the left (one inside a guard tower). To make matters more difficult, a Soviet BMP makes periodic patrols around the checkpoint. Use your LAW launcher to take it down.
After clearing the checkpoint, proceed toward the general's house. Instead of maneuvering through dense Soviet territory, hang inside the forest south of the general's house. You should remain undetected as you move toward the hill just south of the general's residence. Unfortunately, you discover the grounds cluttered with enemy troops.

Though it may be possible to sneak your way inside the building, it's also possible to snipe every Soviet guard in sight. Use the empty tents as cover. Soviet guards appear from the left and right of the general's residence in large numbers. Make sure you are covered from as many sides as possible before you zoom in with the scope. You must also worry about a couple of Soviet tanks in the area.
You automatically retrieve the codes upon entering the general's house. If you cleared the area of guards, escaping should be easy. If not, time for more sneaking around. Return to grid reference Cc46 with the codes to complete the mission.
Search and Destroy--Central Kolgujev
Briefing: Commander, we have approximately one hour before Guba launches his missile. You know what you have to do. You'll start out with your team close (located at grid location Eh51) to the SCUD's known position.
Objectives: Proceed to the launch area (located at grid location Ec53) and pinpoint the SCUD as quickly as possible. The launch site will be heavily defended. Having assessed the situation, call in Zulu (located at grid location Eb62), three M1A1s, for help. Advise them whether to proceed by the eastern (located at grid location Ed56) or the western (located at grid location Dg56) route. If it's safe to do so, you may also call November (located at grid location Fi63), two Cobras, for additional support. Destroy the SCUD. Get back in one piece.
Search and Destroy is a fun mission that, like many Operation Flashpoint missions, can be completed in a variety of fashions. Orders are to locate the SCUD launcher somewhere in the launch area (it's located at Eb53). Destroy the SCUD launcher and return to base to complete the mission. Here are a couple of ways to complete the task:
You can proceed into the mission area alone and eschew the use of your squad. Arm yourself with any firearm and a LAW launcher to blast the SCUD launcher from long range. Call in Zulu and November as necessary and approach Eb53. Equip the LAW launcher and blast the SCUD launcher. Immediately turn around and start running back to safety.
Destroy the SCUD launcher to complete the objective. You can go about the task in several different ways. |
Proceed into the mission area with the assistance of your squad. Arm yourself with the sniper rifle and LAW launcher. Support your team with long-range sniper attacks as you press forward to Eb53. Call in Zulu and November as necessary. Order your team to attack Soviet targets while you use a LAW launcher to blast the SCUD. Turn around and retreat to base to complete the mission.
Perhaps the easiest way: use a truck! Order your squad inside the nearby truck, then get inside the truck and assume the driver's seat. Drive the truck toward Eb53, making sure to avoid any patrolling BMPs or tanks. If you run into a problem, order your LAW launcher soldiers out of the truck and command them to attack the Soviet vehicle. Drive until you can see the SCUD launcher. Get out, arm the LAW launcher, and blast the SCUD. Get back inside the truck and drive back to safety. Naturally you should order Zulu and November to attack as you approach to cause further confusion and distraction.
