The life of a Russian soldier is quite different than one from America or Great Britain, as you're about to discover. Now taking control of the life of a peasant, conscripted into the Russian Army, you must face the harsh realities of war on a low, low budget. The opening cut-scene shows your arrival at the outskirts of Stalingrad. Your first mission is to merely get inside.

Objective 1: Acquire a weapon or some ammunition
You can't control your character yet, other than your stance. Watch as you walk through the line. One person gets a rifle, the next gets ammunition. Guess where you end up in line? That's right, you have no ammo, but loads of hope for the future.

Objective 2: Find a more experienced soldier and obtain new orders
Bad news. Stuka bombers and German machineguns are laying waste to the Russian Army, an army you just recently joined. More bad news, retreating will result in summary execution. Wait... Even more bad news. No matter whom you follow during this objective, there are no weapons to be found. Even if you follow a soldier with a rifle in hand and they get gunned down right before your eyes, their weapon will disappear into the virtual ether.

Your goal is to find Private Borodin (follow the Objective Marker, as always). To get to him, however, you need to avoid being shot to pieces. Stay in a low crouch and move from cover to cover as quickly as possible. The gunners need to reload, so stay behind cover until the shots slow and run to the next bit of cover.

When you reach the young sniper, he'll ask you for a spot of help. He needs to you draw the German's fire so he can snipe the shooters in the window. There's a truck to the left. Wait for Borodin to tell you to go, then stand and run to the truck. As soon as you reach the truck, drop into a crouch and wait for Borodin to make his way to you. He'll point to a red car to the left. When he gives the order, stand and run to it and then crouch once you've reached it. Lastly, he'll have you head back down the hill. Follow his orders and take cover behind the remains of a wall. Borodin joins you and then convinces a Russian Sergeant to call in for air support. Sit tight as the bombs shake the scenery. Stay crouched and you'll be fine.

Objective 3: Enter the city of Stalingrad
Eventually, the bombing stops and Borodin cheers. Looks like you're gonna retake Red Square. Follow Borodin up the path and towards a mission where you can get an actual gun in your hands.

On to Red Square...
