Russian Campaign: Pavlov's House

Stalingrad Red Square Train Station Stalingrad Sewers Pavlov's House Warsaw Factory Warsaw Railyards Oder River Countryside Oder River Town

If you've been itching to really feel the chaos of war, than this mission will serve you well. The first half of this mission will seem like any other as you force entry into a six-story building and clear it of Nazis. It's the second half, when a large force of Germans storm the house, that the frenetic madness of war comes into full view.

Objective 1: Assemble with Sergeant Pavlov's squad
Grab any health and ammo that's in the room where you begin and then follow your commanding officer outside. Don't forget to drop into a crouch. There are snipers on the building across the way and there's no way for your small force to progress until the snipers are taken care of. Enter one poor private who must draw their fire to reveal their position.

Objective 2: Eliminate the snipers (7)
Ass the fast little soldier runs out, look to the building straight ahead. Drop into a prone position on the crest of the hill so that you can remain hidden from sight. Don't look through your scope. Instead, watch the building and see where the muzzle flash of sniper fire comes from. Then scope through and fire. Each time you kill a sniper, your decoy moves to draw more fire. The snipers appear in random windows, but if you look for the flash and then zoom in, you will have no trouble finding all seven.

Objective 3: Get across the field
After the last sniper is aced, bombers hit the area. You need to move fast. Run across the field. There are no enemies shooting at you until you near the brick wall, so don't fret being in a standing position. When you near the brick wall, crouch and get against the wall for cover.

Objective 4: Clear out the apartment building (6 floors)
Keep your rifle out as there's more Nazis in the building ahead. Stay low to the wall and lean to snipe. The biggest danger are the MG42s along the first-floor window. Any Nazi can take these up and the result is quite deadly for the Russian soldiers outside. Your best hope for taking out anyone on the MG42s is the shoot them while they are busy looking the other way. If they start focusing on you, stay covered and wait for their attention to go elsewhere. You can also clear them out with a well-thrown grenade. After taking out the MG42 blokes, start smoking the other snipers, however you need to keep your eye on the MG42s, because other Nazis will take them over. Snipe them before they can grab hold. Always clear out any Nazis you can see on the lower floors before searching for others. Once you clean out the immediate danger, Pavlov orders everyone to storm the building.

There are six floors in all, each with a set of enemies. Don't miss out on the basement! You can take the floor sin any order and it's very easy to miss an enemy and think you've cleared the floor. Arm yourself with your machinegun and get ready for Nazis at every corner. Hit the building hard and fast. If you've gone top to bottom and you still have floors not listed as being cleared, look at the Objective Marker. Remember that an arrow up means the objective is on an upper floor and down means it's lower. Once the arror disappears, you know you're on a floor that still has enemies.

Objective 5: Regroup with Sergeant Pavlov on the fourth floor
Once that fun project if finished, head up to the fourth floor to meet with Pavlov, who rings a bell before feeding you dinner. Okay, he doesn't ring a bell and he doesn't give you dinner, so stop drooling. Pavlov informs you that German tanks are a'coming. Time for you to perform more heroics.

Objective 6: Use the second floor anti-tank rifle to destroy the tank
This isn't as hard as it sounds. Rush down to the second floor and follow the Objective Marker to the anti-tank rifle. This isn't like a Flak Gun and will not destroy the tank in one shot. Keep firing until it is gone.

Objective 7: Use the third floor anti-tank rifle to destroy the tank
Move up to the third floor quickly, get prone and grab the anti-tank rifle. Fire until the tank is kablooey.

Objective 8: Hold the building until relieved by friendly units (4 minutes)
Now comes the hard part. Nazis storm the building, tanks roll in, chaos is unleashed. Though you have comrades to assist you, even they will have a tough time against the odds. Your goal is personal survival until reinforcements arrive. That's four whole minutes, though. No matter where you go, there will be Nazis giving you trouble from every possible position. Whatever you do, don't go down to the first floor as it has the most access points. The best spot is the third floor. Find yourself a corner and stay put. Wait for enemies to come to you.

The only problem with this strategy, is that there are more tanks that arrive. Two hit from the same spot. They could well blow a hole in the wall you're using as cover. When you hear the tanks arrive, do your best to get to the anti-tank rifle and take them out, then return to your cover spot and wait. Running around will only expose you. With Nazis coming from every side, you need as much protection as possible. The other problem with staying huddled is that Nazis will toss grenades to flush you out. When this happens, there's really no other choice but to run straight at them and try to survive. Once the grenade has detonated, retreat to your safe spot.

Objective 9: Clear the area of any remaining forces
After four minutes have passed, reinforcements arrive. You and your comrades must take out the remaining Nazis. A counter appears, the total will depend on how many Nazis were left on the raid when reinforcements arrive, but expect between 8-14 enemies remaining. Play it safe and take to the hallways carefully. Despite the arrival of reinforcements, the Nazis are not retreating.

Objective 10: Assemble with reinforcements out front
Get downstairs and find your squad waiting out front. Don't worry, those tanks parked on the lawn are friendlies. Once you reach your commander, the mission ends.

On to Warsaw Factory...
