Your Units Berserks Bowmen Dwarves Journeyman Enemy Units Ghôls Soulless Thrall Goal Find the World Knot and repair it using your Dwarves (at least one Dwarf must survive to do this). Cross through the World Knot to exit the mission. Walk-through 1. As you begin, standing at a three-way intersection, group your units by type and divvy up your Dwarves into three groups of two. MAP 2. Fend off the initial assaults by groups of Soulless and Thrall. MAP 3. You can reach the World Knot by following either the northeast or western trail. In both cases, you must find a shallow pass across the stream to a peninsula on which sits the World Knot. MAP 4. Take the western path; it has slightly tighter confines, but two excellent strategic locations. You may clear out the area around the northeastern path if you like, but it is not required. MAP 5. Turning west, cross the head of the waterfall, descend the small hill, and give a big howdy-do to the Ghôl patrol waiting for you. MAP 6. This is your first strategic locale. Set up your Bowmen and Dwarves to guard this hill with your Berserks in a line behind them. MAP 7. Next, send one Berserk out into the area to the north in search of wandering Ghôls. Once you find one - or many - make a break for your trap back on the hill. Draw the Ghôls back to it and kill them with cold efficiency. Remember, by the way, that when you see a Ghôl wind up to throw a Pus Packet, make your unit abruptly change direction; the packet will likely miss and your opposition will find itself suddenly unarmed. Berserks are particularly good at this maneuver. MAP 8. Once you have cleared out most of the Ghôls, advance your entire force to the huge, round hill to the north. Fortify this position and send your Berserks out to lure back any stragglers. MAP
10. Send across a team of Bowmen to attack the nearby troops and immediately retreat across the stream when they respond. Prepare your Berserks and/or Dwarves to set upon the pursuers as they cross the river. This may take a few repetitions, but it is the safest way to whittle away at the opposition. MAP 11. Once the immediate area is clear, bring your troops across the river and set them up on the hill just north of the crossing. Send out a Berserk to lure in the remaining enemy troops and plant them back in the ground. MAP 12. Advance your troops in formation until you see the force guarding the World Knot. You will probably not be able to lure them out of position, so be prepared to make a full-frontal assault. Bring your Dwarves up first for a couple of good kabooms, but immediately pull them behind the lines to preserve them; the more Dwarves you have to reassemble the World Knot, the easier it is. Clear out each squad of undead guardians around the World Knot. Note that some enemy forces from across the river may come to face you, if you didn't clear them out from the northeast path. MAP 13. Send your Berserks forward to make sure the coast is clear around the World Knot, a circle of purple rock structures. Once it's secure, bring up your Dwarves to reassemble the World Knot. To do this, select individual Dwarves and click on the purple fragments of the World Knot strewn about on the ground. Walk the Dwarves to the broken arm of the Knot, and they will automatically place the fragment properly. MAP 14. Once all the pieces are in, the World Knot will activate and a large enemy force will descend from the north. You can fight them, but you are probably better off moving all of your forces into the circle of the World Knot and completing your mission. MAP Next, Level VIII: Great Library |
