Alric, the Avatara hero of the Great War, is now the King in this time of peace. Once Soulblighter's threat arises, however, he retakes the mantle of commander of the forces of Light. You will only have access to Alric's powers occasionally, but you should be sure to take advantage of him when you do. Alric is very tough in hand-to-hand combat both in terms of his strength and resilience. He attacks quickly (though not too potently) and can withstand mind-boggling amounts of pain. His primary value, however, lies with his special attack. Alric is empowered to cast a Dispersal Dream. This magic, fueled by the possession of magical green relics called Energine Cubes, causes its targets to explode in a shower of entrails. One of these cubes is consumed, like the Dwarves' Satchel Charges or the Bowmen's Fire Arrow, each time Alric unleashes this spell, so use them wisely. The Dream spreads to any unit in close proximity causing a chain reaction of spontaneous combustion, so only use it from long range against large groupings of enemies, lest its power go to waste on a small number of Soulblighter's soldiers - or worse yet, it can devastate your own ranks. In the penultimate campaign mission, Alric cannot use Dispersal Dream. Still, you'll find that he is more powerful than ever thanks to his enchanted sword Balmung. When Alric strikes a foe with this blade, a deadly lightning spell will rip through the target and all nearby units, friend or foe. With Balmung, Alric can slaughter entire armies of Myrkridia single-handedly, but be certain to keep your other forces well clear of the area as he fights. Alric's survival is essential to your quest, so keep him alive whenever you have control of him. If he dies, so do you. |
