Mortar Dwarves For some Dwarves, there can never be enough firepower. Having mastered the art of thrown grenades, the Dwarves set upon developing a more powerful and longer-range demolition capability. Hence, the Mortar Dwarf. Mortar Dwarves are in all ways similar to their more traditional counterparts, but their weaponry must be handled differently. Most obviously, they can be used to break down fortress walls from afar. They can also be used against enemy troops, especially when those troops must pass through a narrow entry or when a pack of slow-moving troops is approaching from a distance. Place Mortar Dwarves on high, preferably unapproachable ground and set them to guard. If there is any danger of counterattack, keep them well defended and use the fire-and-retreat method whenever possible. The good news is that Mortar Dwarves are still very effective, though less so, if used from low ground. If you happen to see some Ghôls taunting you from a high castle tower, the Mortar Dwarves can lob one right down their throats. One less obvious use of the Mortar Dwarves is to set off distant abandoned Satchel Charges or stray Pus Packets. Target these for an extra explosion. Like conventional Dwarves, Mortar Dwarves are very fragile and very slow and have no way of defending themselves at close range. Also, since they carry Satchel Charges, they too can be more dangerous dead than alive; if an explosion goes off near a dying Mortar Dwarf, all his charges will detonate, taking anyone nearby with him. They are extremely slow to attack and reload and are prone to blowing themselves up, but their firepower is much more potent than their cousins'. Next, The Pathfinder Dwarves and the Warriors |
