Note: Although this is technically a "mod" for Jedi Academy, I include it here because it represents the polished up work left previously unfinished (due to factors beyond their control) during the development of the game itself.
Thus I consider it "part of the game" (the closest thing to an official "patch" as an unofficial mod can be) even if it comes out "unofficially". So to all the guys out there who helped make this happen and allowed us what otherwise might never have seen the light of day, "thank you!" =)
There are two versions of the Siege_Destroyer scenario. siege_destroyer is titled "Star Destroyer Attack" while the newer enhanced version (siege_destroyer2) is titled "Star Destroyer Attack 2.0."
"Star Destroyer Attack 2.0" is included with the "Asteroids" mod and is far more challenging. It includes new ships, bug fixes and tweaks (such as more powerful weapons and more durable structures).
Another major difference between the two is with the classes. The older map version allows each team to choose from the full range of each of six classes. However, since combat is carried out inside vehicles and all classes can pilot equally well, there is little point in having additional classes, and for this reason 2.0 removes all but the Pilot (Assault) classes. The only real benefit to the old setup was that Jedi could get to their ships faster (using Force Jump).
The other classes possess all of their normal abilities, but the fact that no ground activity takes place outside the starting hangers, they aren't of any real use in the map.
The most important difference between the two maps challenge wise is that version 2.0 gives the attacking team only 8 minutes (instead of 20) to complete all their objectives! Remember that on round two, the new attacking team has only to beat the previous team's time by 1 second to win.
Overall Destroyer is very different from the other maps in JA in general because it focuses (like Asteroids) entirely on vehicle based combat. In this case, it's one team of vehicles vs. another in the Siege scenario. Challenging to learn at first, but definately a lot of fun!
