It's D-Day and the well-planned Allied invasion is in chaos. Many men have dropped into the wrong locations and your first goal is simply to regroup. Things start off easy enough, with a couple of enemies in your way, but no sooner will it feel like an easy walk in a French park, than all hell breaks loose. This is a short mission, but should get you a good taste of the heavy action coming your way.
Objective 1: Link up with Sgt. Heath
As you touch down, you are not in any immediate danger,
so feel free to check out your weapons (but don't fire any) and make sure you
are comfortable with the controls. Once you're set, crouch and head up the path
to the right. You won't have to go very far before running into a lone German
soldier. If you wasted no time heading up the path, you can catch him taking a
leak. It's a terrible way to die, but better him than you. Whip out the Carbine
and cap him before he's done shaking off.
Continue along the path and you'll soon find Sgt. Heath... hanging from a tree. You can't cut him down and you can't raise him from the dead. Get used to it, soldier. This is the reality of war. All you can do now it continue on with the mission. You'll have to set up the beacon on your own.
Objective 2: Get the Sergeant's Legbag
Look for the flashing yellow on the ground, walk over
to it and hold down F to grab it. If only all objectives were this easy. You may
want to pick up the Sergeant's Girand. While it's a little less powerful than
the Kar98k, it has a better rate of fire and can hold more rounds.
Objective 3: Set up the radio beacon
Stay to the right and keep moving. There are two Nazis
in a bunked ahead. Stay in the bushes and you can snipe them. Or you can run in
with guns blazing and grab up the health inside. Beyond the bunker, you'll find
the radio beacon. Stay crouched and move to it, then hit F to activate the
beacon. See all those trucks passing? That's not a good sign. Neither is the
rattle on the German radio. Good thing this is the last objective in the... oh,
wait, there's more. D'oh.
Objective 4: Defend the drop zone
Don't worry, this isn't a very big fight. As the radio
beacon kicks in, Allied planes fly low and drop off your squad mates. Head
towards the set of walls near the houses. There will be some Germans inside so
get out your long-range rifle and ADS. Look towards the upper-window for enemies
and take them out so they don't get a chance to hurt your boys. Switch to the
Thompson. Follow your men into the first house and get ready to shoot.
Objective 5: Make your way to the nearest town
There are Nazis to the immediate right, but they are
hiding behind some couches. Stay low and toss a grenade their way to kill them
or at least flush them up. Upstairs is another Nazi, but you need to kill him
and keep moving. Fortunately, your boys will never stray too far from you, so
you can explore a bit if you want and once you reach them, they'll move
forward.
The second house is more problematic. There's a Nazi upstairs, but he's not your immediate concern. Head for the exit and take down the Germans passing by, then go upstairs to finish things off. Regroup with your boys outside and follow them into the trench. The bigger battle awaits.
