The Relic Discovered
Go to the northeast geyser, deploy the factory and the recycler, and crank out a couple of scavengers and several turrets. Your base will have to face several Soviet attack waves, the first of which is likely to come from the northeast. (Whatever you do, don't go to the southwest geyser - launching a salvage job on the artifact from here will be disastrous.) The attack waves shouldn't pose a big problem, provided you get two or three turrets set in a crossfire position to protect the recycler, and you're able to have the factory crank out a couple of tanks to aid in base defense.
When ordered to investigate Nav Beacon 5, don't freak out and do it immediately, unless you're satisfied with your base defenses. And don't even dream of going in the direction of the relic until you've been given orders to do so - you'll run into all the Soviet fighters that would normally be attacking your base in small waves. Bear in mind you can keep manufacturing units as you head toward the "Investigate CCA" Nav Beacon. And remember to bring along a tug and a scout on your initial recon pass to speed up the retrieval process. Don't panic! You can succeed at this mission just as easily on foot after ejecting from a damaged craft as you can from the cockpit of a tip-top tank, provided you keep the tug safe as it tows the relic.
